What Does A Resolution Look Like?

It’s that time of year again! Have you made your resolution for 2015 yet? Maybe you want to eat healthier, exercise more, spend more time with your family or even go to church regularly. Resolutions are great, except that for most of us they just don’t stick. So what does a resolution really look like? Merriam-Websters dictionary has many definitions for the word resolution. Six of those definitions annotate an action such as “the act of” or “the process of.” Will you commit to making your resolution an action in 2015?
Luke 9:51 (NIV) says: As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Jesus was preparing to walk through a city where he was hated and into a city where he would be crucified. Yet, he walked with resolution. Can you picture that? Jesus knew what was going to happen to him just outside the city of Jerusalem, yet he resolutely walked towards the city anyways. The Bible says ” he resolutely set out for Jerusalem”. He didn’t look back , think twice, decide it was too hard and give up. He kept walking, teaching, and loving until he eventually gave his own life so that we may have life.
My Study Bible suggests that this kind of resolve should characterize our lives as well. Now, our resolutions won’t come close to being as important as what Jesus did, BUT what if for this next year, regardless of the challenges we may face along the way, we approached our resolutions with the same steadfastness that Jesus did? How much longer will we keep our resolutions if we approach them with the same dedication and loyalty Jesus did as he approached the city of Jerusalem?
My resolution for 2015 is this blog. I have a passion for learning scripture as well as a passion for teaching health and fitness. My resolution is to combine these so we can learn together what the Bible tells us about living our lives in the healthiest way possible. As you make your health resolutions for 2015, I would love to know what they are. My mission is to help you achieve them as we resolutely set out for 2015 together.
Happy New Years!
